Buddhism: A Refuge for the Three Jewels

Recognizing the four Noble Truths and following the first steps of the "Eight-Armed Path" requires "refuge" from the Three Jewels of Buddhism. Tibetan Buddhism sometimes adds another refuge in the person of a lama teacher.

The Three Jewels of Faith:

Buddha (the Awakened One) is a title given to those who have achieved enlightenment in the same way as the Buddha and help others achieve it. The term "Buddha" can also be understood as the wisdom that understands the Dharma, in this vision, the Buddha represents the supreme knowledge of reality in its true form.
Dharma is a teaching or law promoted by the Buddha, the word of Gautama, recorded in Buddhist scriptures. This term also means a natural law based on human behavior and the consequences of that behavior (action and reaction). This may have (especially in Mahayana Buddhism) a tinge of higher reality.
The Sangha . This term literally means "group", "assembly", "assembly", but when used in Buddhist teachings, it refers to one of the following two types of groups: either a monastic community (Monks, monks and bhikkhus, nuns) or all people who have reached at least the first step (Sotapanna) on the path to enlightenment. According to modern Buddhists, the sangha also includes lay people who take care of monks, and those who have accepted the observance of a part of the monastic code, but have not yet become a monk or nun. The Buddhist community plays an important role in the liberation of the believer.
According to the Scriptures, the Buddha showed the disciples as a model of pleading with them to have faith (Sanskrit raddh, Pli Saddha) in their example of a man who had freed himself from the pain and danger of existence. But it is the Dharma that gives the believer guidance in the process of alleviating suffering and achieving enlightenment. The Sangha plays an important role in maintaining and preserving authentic Buddhist teachings and providing concrete examples that the truth propagated by the Buddha is tangible.

In Mahayana, there is a tendency to perceive the Buddha not as a simple person, but as an earthly projection of an entity that transcends thought itself. In some sutras of Mahayana Buddhism, Dharma and Sangha are considered as one Being: all three jewels make up the Eternal Buddha. Apart from its importance in saving suffering, the three jewels are also greatly revered by all Buddhists. For example, the worship of the Buddha as a historical figure or as an a priori entity has taken many forms over time, and the recording of the scriptures, the materialization of the Dharma, is carried out with reverence and fear.
